Canadian Quilters Connect & FIrst Giveaway

SewSistersQuiltShop Thank you Patti (of Retired to Quilt) for including me in the list of Saskatchewan Quilt Bloggers. I feel like a bit of a poser among the others but I'm starting to feel more and more like a REAL quilter all the time!

And thank you Sew Sisters Quilt Shop for hosting this wonderful event and for including me. I'm very excited to find more Canadian quilt bloggers!

Welcome visitors.

Obviously quilting hasn't been the primary purpose of my blog but I'm happy to say I'm moving in that direction thanks to knocking down most of my hurdles. Click on the "QUILTS" tab above to get some idea of the quilting I've been doing. Maybe you'll want to check back from time to time. I hope to have my Plus Quilt top done this weekend and soon I hope to undertake my first machine quilting! YIKES!

And, oh yes, my first ever GIVEAWAY!  The thing is I don't know what it will be yet. (Oh yes, I do ... scroll down to see what it is).

Meanwhile, just add a comment to be entered. International entries are most welcome.  In your comment, tell me something you associate with Saskatchewan or share a Saskatchewan experience. And feel free to say so if you had to Google "Saskatchewan".

I'll make the draw and announce the winner on November 25, after the tour has finished.

Good luck and enjoy visiting all the blogs!

Addendum:

Here's what I'm giving away - 5 fat quarters. I think they're lovely. They're all from one fabric line except for the lime green chicopee at the top. I took this photo at night since I hardly ever see real day light during the week except out my window at work (thank GOD I have a window), so the colours aren't exactly true. In the photo the chicopee looks yellow instead of lime green and that tone on tone grid is actually more red than orange. Click on the links below to see better online photos of each fabric. Darkness sucks ... just sayin'.

From top to bottom
  1. Chicopee - Heatwave Stripe Lime
  2. Restoration - Large Medallion Black
  3. Restoration - Check Red
  4. Restoration - Intertwined Lace Black
  5. Restoration - Stripe Black

  5. My favourite thing about Saskatchewan are the Roughriders. I love that team. I grew up in BC and now live in AB, so it's not the most obvious team for me to cheer for, but I love their heart and spirit. My husband, a hardcore Stampeders fan, shakes his head at my apparent insanity.

  6. I live and love the Fraser Valley in BC, but for a mid summer drive the long rolling hills south of Moose Jaw can't be beat! Love those beautiful feilds of grain and the dusty gravel backroads where history still can be seen, even if it is falling down... love your page of quilts!

  11. OK OK - I've driven through Saskatechewan. Once. I have however read many books about the province, and by many authors from there...

  12. I'm on Vancouver Island and have only been in Saskatechewan a couple of times...once on the train heading back to work in Toronto when I was in high school (many, many years ago). I remember the fields of grain and how flat it was.

  13. I'm visiting from the Canadian blogathon. Lots to see on your blog and it is becoming a quilting blog. I love the quilt for your Uncle Reg - and my doesn't he look young for 90!
A Saskatchewan experience. I've lived at both ends of Canada but know little about the prairies. Two winters ago I flew to St. John's NFLD to help my daughter drive home to the Yukon. We drove during the day and slept in hotels at night and it took us about ten days. We stayed in Saskatoon and got up to leave around 8 in the morning. DD had a map of the city she'd picked up somewhere and even though we were two blocks from the TC the way we'd come in - she suggested we take another highway out of town that connected to the TC. I was driving and she was supposed to direct. I drove on and on - no direction to turn - and then we came to a side road with a stop sign. "This must be it" she said. I pointed out that a highway would likely have signs and that this looked like a dirt road, but she insisted and as she had been grumpy I wasn't going to argue. We drove and drove down this road as it got snowier and snowier, with me saying I was pretty sure this wasn't the highway and her saying nothing. Then we hit a drift of snow in the road and were stuck. The map had a number for a tow truck and she had BCAA so she called on her cell phone. "Where are you?" the man asked. "Well we headed out on xyz road and we drove for about twenty-five minutes then we turned right on a road with a stop sign." He declared he couldn't send a tow truck out to drive around all morning looking for us. So we walked out to the highway (took us an hour, but it was a beautiful sunny morning and I had my long johns, down coat and felt packs on). Then she phoned again and he sent the truck out as we could now flag him down when he got to our road. The tow truck driver was wonderful and got us right out and the panel of her car that had popped off fixed right on again. And I thought one couldn't get lost on the prairies!

  16. Born in Newfoundland - I know Goofy Newfy! Spent time visiting the "V" side - Victoria, Vancouver and double V - Whistler. Isn't Saskatchewan where the mosquito is the national bird? Seriously most of Canada makes me think of postcard worthy terrain and the world's friendliest people.

  17. Hi Heather,
I associated prairie wheat, big sky and beautiful farmland as far as the eye can see when I think of Saskatchewan. I know that it is much more than that- Saskatoon is a very pretty city with a lovely university campus.
I teach in a school that offers a program of Cree as a second language. We had a number of families over the years who have connections to some of the Saskatchewan reserves.
I hope you are doing well these days- I haven't stopped by your blog in awhile so it is nice to pop in and say hi.
The fat quarters are indeed very pretty - you made some terrific choices for some lucky winner.
    Regards from Edmonton,
    Anna

  26. I am 29 years old and have been diagnosed with breast cancer, ease of treatment and a similar story, except for my first acceptance as a rejection of herbal medicine. I was not part of the Perseid movement and did not really build relationships with any of them, I just believed in their operation. I say this because it was during the use of Dr. Itua herbal medicine that I now attest that herbal medicine is real, the phytotherapy Dr. Itua heal my breast cancer which I suffered for 2 years. Dr. Itua herbal medicine is made of natural herbs, with no side effects, and easy to drink.
