Rules for My Grown Son

I brought this book home from Montreal for Luke. I don't think he's that interested in it. He raised an eyebrow and I don't think he's cracked a page. It's chock-a-block full of good rules even for a boy just out of his teens. I think I imagined that it might make up for some of my failings or for those lessons that are just better learned coming from someone else ... if you know what I mean. Maybe his Dad will read it!

Examples:
  • Keep a picture of your first fish, first car, and first girlfriend.
  • Don't underestimate your fertility.
  • Offer your date the seat with the best view of the restaurant.
  • When selling tickets, take face value.
  • Take her picture.
  • Watch your language at the ballgame.
  • When it comes to opening presents, no one likes a good guesser.
  • Be careful not to ogle girls at the beach. That's what sunglasses are for.
  • Offer to carry a woman's bags. Especially your mother's.
  • Nothing good ever happens after 3 a.m. I promise.
  • If you absolutely have to fight, punch first and punch hard.
  • Never be afraid to ask out the best looking girl in the room.
And ... my personal favourite ...
  • When excusing yourself from the table, you need not give a reason.

  2. Hi Karen! I'd just been thinking of you, too, and was guessing that you're having a wonderfully busy summer!

Things are improving steadily for me in the usual two step forwards one step back kind of way which is, ultimately, progress!

I haven't seen much lacrosse. We've had such rainy weather here I haven't been keen to go to the field games and a lot of the box games have been in Alberta and we haven't made the trip. This weekend and next, though, games are here so I'm really looking forward to that. The team is doing good.

How about you? Lots of lacrosse in your world? "The Bear" doing up lots of yummy things on the barbie? Anything particularly exciting on your summer events list?

Not much in our plans here. A little trip on the July long weekend to the lake where my Mom has a cabin ... and that's about it. I'm happy to just hang at home for a while since I just did a bit of traveling. I want to nurture some flowers in our yard and do some house things.

Miss you guys, too. Love to the fam! xoxo

  3. Miss you too! Glad you're moving forward and love your new hair!

I hope you have lots of fun at lacrosse, nice to hear the team is doing well. The trip to the lake sounds wonderful - enjoy! Ohhh, btw I loved your Montreal pics - that looked like a terrific getaway.

There hasnt been too much bbq'ing in our lives these days .. Barry refs constantly and Liam is away most dinner times (practices and games) and quite honestly the weather hasnt been all that supportive of the cause. I spent two days scrubbing off the decks so hopefully once it gets warmer, we'll start to use them more :)

We watch lots of lacrosse and have been working the days away. For us it's been the year of the concerts. We've had a few bands come through that have made us want to crack open the old wallet haha .. ZZ Top was lots of fun, really liked 54-40 (not too crazy about Sam Roberts tho). The big concert trip was 7 of us went to Van to see Tom Petty and Joe Cocker. Ais has tickets to Lady GaGa in August which should be fun (I'm quite jealous).

Good luck with your flowers, I'm trying to do something similar here but they just dont look as pretty as yours :) Please say happy father's day to Kevin. Love to all

  4. Hi Karen! I envy you your summer concert extravaganza. And yes, Lady Gaga would be a blast to see, too! We haven't done much concerting lately, though it's something we love to do. We've been traveling instead. I'm kind of glad to stay put for a while.

Now our mosquitoes are SO bad we can't even enjoy our flowers! I take a quick run around the yard after work for a quick look but that's about it. I can hardly stand to stay still long enough to take a picture. I don't think you get so many nasty mosquitoes. We don't usually have so many either but right now they're AWFUL!

Love to the whole fam! I'm sure your flowers will be looking gorgeous soon enough!

    xoxo
